Aircraft

Aircraft batteries are used both for starting and for other aircraft functions.  These batteries are typically expensive, sealed Ni-Cd or Lead Acid chemistries, although Lithium-Ion batteries have more recently been getting used sparingly in new aircraft power systems.

Global Energy Innovations’ EC1000™, EC2000™ and IBMS™ (Intelligent Battery Management System™) Software with CELScan™ technology, provides those who service these aircraft batteries precise information on the exact health of the battery systems and can be used to predict when each cell in a pack will fail and what preventative maintenance to perform.  The resulting cost savings is realized in the form of increased efficiencies of the maintenance teams and longer “Effective Battery Life” of each battery in use.

Military

The various militaries of the world use enormous amounts of batteries in all aspects of their operations.  The need for precise battery test and restoration equipment is essential to prevent costly and dangerous battery failures.  Additionally, with the huge amounts of batteries in use, extending battery life is a key driver in reducing battery expenditures.

Global Energy Innovations, Inc. and its partner company Power Products, Inc. have been manufacturing battery charge, discharge, test and restoration / conditioning equipment used by the United States Navy, Army, Air Force and Marines for many years.  A number of our products have National Stocking Numbers and are used across the armed forces for testing and restoring ground support, aviation and other battery assets.

Marine

Traditional Marine batteries are used both for starting (cranking) and other deep cycle applications such as powering electrical accessories such as motors, navigation equipment, backup power systems and other DC equipment.  Regardless of the application, these batteries are relied upon to provide power in critical applications where failure is often dangerous and costly.

The EC1000™ and EC2000™ Analyzers assists the maintenance engineer in assessing both the true condition of the batteries as well as other critical boat system function.  When heavy battery sulfation and capacity loss is measured (This condition is often due to continued deep discharges with inadequate charging and equalization), the Dynapulse™ conditioning / restoration systems provide rapid recovery of these sulfated batteries before they become permanently damaged.  With this combined test and restoration capability, companies and operators of marine battery systems will enjoy a higher level of confidence that their back-up power systems will perform when needed.

Solar

Solar power systems that rely on batteries most often fail from battery failure.  Just like utility, telecommunication and UPS battery strings, solar battery strings use wet cells (VLA), while others use sealed (AGM – VRLA or GEL) batteries.

Depending on the solar application, selection of the correct battery type and accompanying charging and support hardware is critical.  For example, a system that requires frequent deep discharge cycles will require a battery that will survive this rigorous use.  Solar/battery systems that provide emergency backup, where the battery is on float charge (full state-of-charge) most of the time, does not abuse the battery nearly as much as the first scenario.  The charge and discharge requirements for these different sites can be very different resulting in very different battery state-of-health conditions.   When a battery is not properly charged for extended periods of time due to inadequate solar array capacity, heavy battery sulfation often results.

In addition to battery state-of-health testing and monitoring, solar systems require additional maintenance and testing.  Often the solar array will stop outputting its specified power due to bad or defective modules.  This type of condition often goes unnoticed until the site, or equipment powered by the battery, stops working due to inadequate reserve battery capacity.

The EC1000™ and EC2000™ accessories, such as the AC/DC Current Clamp, AC/DC Current Shunts and Thermocouple Probe Module, work with the EC1000™ and EC2000™ to perform additional solar panel and solar array testing functions. Advanced Voltmeter:  Solar panel Open Circuit Voltage (VOC) testing and data logging.

AC/DC Current Clamp:  System (Solar Array) output power testing and data logging.

AC/DC Current Shunt:  Accurate Short Circuit Current (ISC) testing of individual solar panels to determine if they meet their required power output specification.

Thermocouple Probe Module:  Accurate solar array and solar panel temperature testing and data logging.
